Arsenal hit with fresh fine after Liverpool win as FA make ruling on Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are set to be punished for the poor discipline of their players against Liverpool.

Arsenal will receive a fine in the wake of their win over Liverpool, but Mikel Arteta will not be subject to any penalties for his own behaviour. 

Liverpool and Arsenal duked it out in a heated contest at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Ultimately, the Gunners were worthy winners, and the 3-1 result catapulted them back into the heat of the Premier League title race. 

It was pandemonium in north London when referee Anthony Taylor blew the final whistle. The Emirates Stadium erupted in joyous scenes, with club captain Martin Odegaard even spotted celebrating with the club’s official photographer. Though, Odegaard provoked the ire of Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher with these antics. 

Arteta was also quick to celebrate with the fans. Prior to the final whistle, when Leandro Trossard’s late goal secured all three points for the hosts, the Spanish coach could be seen haring down the touchline in elation, far beyond the confines of his technical area. 

The Arsenal boss also came under fire for this exuberant display of joy, as TV presenter Richard Keys accused Arteta of showing a lack of “class”.

However, as reported by the i, The FA have opted not to reprimand or punish Arteta for his celebration, as Taylor did not book the manager on the day, and the governing body will only step in in “extraordinary” cases.

However, the Gunners will be hit with a £25,000 fine, as six of their players were shown yellow cards against the Merseyside outfit. Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Jakub Kiwior, Declan Rice, and Kai Havertz all found themselves in the book before the end of the match.

Meanwhile, Liverpool players Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez were both carded, whilst Ibrahima Konate was sent off for two bookable offences.

In financial terms, this fine won’t do any harm to Arsenal. Suspensions could certainly be an issue for the club in the future though. White, for instance, picked up his sixth booking of the season so far on Sunday. If he hits 10 before the 33rd match of the campaign then he will automatically be handed a two-match ban. Therefore, the right-back, and one or two other members of the Arsenal squad, need to proceed with caution to avoid being handed such a suspension.
