Iconic former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has hit out at former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
Arsenal have not been at their best in recent games. On Saturday, the Gunners’ unbeaten start to the season came to an end as Mikel Arteta’s side slumped to a Premier League defeat against Bournemouth.
The North London outfit got back to winning ways in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, but produced an uninspiring display as they ground out a 1-0 victory against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Arsenal have suffered from a lack of creativity in these outings, as the absences of Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka have been keenly felt.
There have also been uncharacteristic defensive lapses. William Saliba is suspended for Sunday’s clash with Liverpool, after rashly denying a goalscoring opportunity against the Cherries, and subsequently being shown a red card.
Arteta seems to have lost faith in Jakup Kiwior, after the Poland international was guilty of a mistake in the same game.
The Gunners were also caught out by a set-piece routine against Bournemouth.

Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher clash over Arsenal comment
The south coast club took the lead against Arsenal when Ryan Christie converted from a corner in the 70th minute.
It was an innovative and well-worked corner routine that caught Arsenal off-guard completely.
Speaking on Stick to Football, Jill Scott informed Ian Wright of Jamie Carragher’s response to this Bournemouth strike. She revealed: “He said it was the goal of the season.”
The Arsenal legend then joked: “Carra got a bit carried away with that, because it’s Arsenal as well. Carra, you can shut your mouth!”
Bournemouth’s goal was worthy of applause, but wouldn’t register as a goal of the season contender, and Arsenal will be frustrated to have been caught out by a set-piece routine.
Arsenal must cut out mistakes vs Liverpool
The Gunners will need to be far more diligent in their defending when they host Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Arteta has a big decision to make when it comes to choosing who will replace Saliba in the heart of the Arsenal rearguard alongside Gabriel Magalhaes. With Riccardo Calafiori having sustained a knock, the Italian may not be available for this game either, further restricting the manager’s options.
Whoever lines up at the back for the Gunners against Liverpool, it is vital that they avoid silly mistakes. The Reds pose a significant threat as it is, without the home side becoming the architects of their own downfall due to lapses in concentration.
