The latest Arsenal injury news ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion visiting the Gunners as manager Mikel Arteta offers an update on Gabriel Martinelli for this Sunday’s contest.

Roberto De Zerbi brings Brighton back to north London this weekend looking to secure their fourth-straight win at Emirates Stadium. The Seagulls have not lost on a trip to Arsenal in all competitions since May 2021. They even dealt the Gunners a costly 3-0 defeat back in May.

Arsenal will hope they do not suffer another defeat to Brighton on Sunday having lost 1-0 at Aston Villa in their last Premier League game. It cost Arteta’s squad the top spot in the table after the first 16 fixtures, too. But they have made the Emirates a fortress so far this season.

Arsenal injury list ahead of facing Brighton & Hove Albion

Arteta has overseen six wins and two draws through Arsenal’s eight Premier League matches at Emirates Stadium this season before the visit of Brighton. The Gunners have also scored 20 goals to just eight conceded. Brighton are only the 11th-best side away from home so far.

The Seagulls have only won three and drawn one of their seven games away from the Amex Stadium this term. They have also conceded 16 goals, including five in their past two games, to 15 scored. So, ahead of Brighton visiting the Emirates, here is Arsenal’s injury situation…

Gabriel Martinelli illness latest

Arsenal were without star forward Gabriel Martinelli for their Champions League tie at PSV Eindhoven after the Brazilian fell unwell. But Arteta has confirmed that the 22-year-old will be in contention to face Brighton on Sunday. Martinelli has fully recovered from the illness.

“Martinelli is feeling good,” Arteta said during his pre-match press conference on Friday, via quotes by football.london. “He’ll be in contention.”

Expected return: Brighton & Hove Albion (December 17)

Bukayo Saka injury latest

Fears are rife at Arsenal that Bukayo Saka has sustained a foot injury that could rule him out of Sunday’s clash with Brighton. The 22-year-old took a knock during their loss at Aston Villa and failed to shake the issue in time for the trip to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Saka made Arteta’s bench in the Netherlands but was unable to feature as the Gunners and Boeren drew 1-1. Additionally, football.london reported following their Philips Stadion match that Saka was in clear discomfort as he returned to their dressing room with a team doctor.

Expected return: Brighton & Hove Albion (December 17)

Mohamed Elneny injury latest

Arteta has confirmed that Mohamed Elneny suffered a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with PSV. The Gunners’ medical team do not believe the 31-year-old has suffered a big problem following extra tests. But he will miss, at least, the visit of Brighton to the Emirates.

“Mo had to be subbed,” Arteta revealed during Friday’s pre-game press conference. “He felt something in his hamstring. It doesn’t look too serious, so he’ll be with us soon we hope.”

Expected return: West Ham United (December 28)

Thomas Partey injury latest

Arsenal will remain without Thomas Partey until the New Year after the 30-year-old needed a procedure on his thigh injury. But Arteta has just landed a boost regarding the midfielder’s injury after Partey’s PR team uploaded footage to X of the Ghanaian stepping up his training.

Expected return: Liverpool (January 7)

Fabio Vieira injury latest

Surgery on a groin injury is likely to rule Fabio Vieira out of Arsenal’s matches through to the middle of January. The midfielder underwent the operation having failed to shake a niggling problem. Arteta now hopes to have Vieira back following the Premier League’s winter break.

Expected return: Crystal Palace (January 20)

Takehiro Tomiyasu injury latest

Arsenal expect to be without Takehiro Tomiyasu until around the end of January with his calf injury. The 25-year-old sustained his latest blow during their 2-1 win over Wolves at the start of December. It is his first injury of the term but he has had frequent issues in recent years.

Expected return: Crystal Palace (January 20)

Jurrien Timber injury latest

Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber shared in December that he is making ‘good progress’ in his recovery from an ACL injury. The 22-year-old has been sidelined since their opening game of the Premier League season. But it remains a huge doubt if he will return before next season.

“I’m making good progress,” Timber told Arsenal’s YouTube channel about his recovery from surgery. “It won’t be the whole season [that I am out], I hope. I know it’s going well. It’s hard at the same time. But I’m doing my best, working hard and just enjoying being busy.”

Expected return: Next season
