Arsenal haven’t been active on the arrivals front since the January transfer window opened, but that could change.

It was always thought that Andrea Berta would be less active in the January window after the work that Arsenal did in the summer.

Eight new signings set Mikel Arteta up for the season; however, an injury to Mikel Merino could suddenly change the Gunners’ stance.

According to BBC Sport, Arsenal have fears that Merino might have suffered a ‘serious foot injury’.

Following the news, journalist Alex Crook took to X to report that, as a result, the Gunners could ‘delve into the transfer market’.

The January transfer window shuts at 7pm on Monday 2nd February, giving Berta extremely limited time to get a deal over the line.

What Mikel Arteta has said about Mikel Merino’s injury

Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Leeds United was a cause for celebration; however, the victory was overshadowed by Merino’s fitness issues.

After the game, Arteta shared an update on his prized midfielder, revealing that Merino was set for tests on his foot.

“He’s got an issue in his foot. It’s a bone that’s giving him some pain, and we have some exams, we need some more specialists to look at it and to see how long he will be out.”

There has been no official update from the club regarding the timeframe for Merino’s recovery, with the timing far from ideal as the January transfer window prepares to close.
