Andrea Berta has already made his plans for Arsenal’s January transfer window so clear

There’s currently no sign that Arsenal will sign a player in the January transfer window, and with Andrea Berta at the helm, that should’ve been expected.

Given Edu Gaspar’s downfall at Nottingham Forest, fans of Arsenal are relieved that Berta took charge when he did.

In the summer, Berta signed eight new players for Mikel Arteta to significantly strengthen the Arsenal squad, work that has made a huge difference already.

One of the main reasons why Arsenal sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League table is because of their squad depth.

Berta got all the work done in the summer to get the squad where it is, which isn’t an uncommon move from the sporting director.

Imagine this: You are Andrea Berta, Arsenal have given you £50m to spend in January, where is that money going? 👀

Andrea Berta rarely made January signings at Atletico Madrid

Before coming to Arsenal, Berta spent a total of 12 years at Atletico Madrid, eventually becoming the Spanish giants’ sporting director in 2017.

In that time, Berta signed some tremendous names for Diego Simeone, but, just like at Arsenal, his work happened almost solely in the summer.

In eight years as Atletico’s sporting director, Berta made just four signings in the January transfer window, a tactic he’s likely to replicate at Arsenal.

While Arsenal’s title rivals are strengthening in the transfer market, the Gunners could simply spectate until the window closes on February 7th.

Whether that’s the right tactic is yet to be seen, as things can change rapidly in the transfer market, with no guarantee regarding what Arsenal will plot.

Possible signings Arsenal could make in January

Arteta isn’t opposed to changes in January, but early into the window, the Arsenal manager hasn’t had any names on his list made public.

There are, of course, rumours about the Gunners, sourced from players themselves, news outlets and fan demands.

Long-term target Quinten Timber could leave Feyenoord this winter, opening the door for Arsenal to make their interest known.

At Hale End, Arsenal are working on signing Igor Tyjon, a highly-rated teenage striker currently at Blackburn Rovers.

There have also been links between Arsenal and Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento in a bid to strengthen in defence.

Everything regarding first-team incomings appears to be of a speculative nature at present, but Berta could stun everyone and make an unexpected move.
