Arsenal have been under pressure throughout the 2024/25 campaign due to injury concerns within Mikel Arteta’s squad.
It’s been rare that Arteta has had his favoured lineup available this season, with the injuries continuing to plague the squad.
Arsenal were missing several key defenders against Monaco, with concerns about the fitness of Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhaes ongoing.
The result of the injury woes was a plus for 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly, who earned his full Champions League debut as a result, but it only emphasises how short Arsenal are at present.

Gabriel Magalhaes could be fit to start against Everton
Arguably the greatest injury worry of late has been Gabriel, who has become one of Arteta’s most important players.
The centre-back has been missing from the Gunners’ previous three fixtures, including the Premier League clashes against Manchester United and Fulham.
It’s now been made clear that Gabriel has been dealing with a muscle injury, something that he’s never suffered with in his career.
There’s been mixed reviews amid the Brazilian’s absence, as Jakub Kiwior had a disaster against Fulham last time out.
Now, however, there could finally be some good news in store for Arsenal on the injury front, as Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokbel confirmed.
Mobel wrote in his latest column that the Gunners are ‘hoping’ that Gabriel will be fit to return to the squad against Everton on Saturday.
It’s understood that the Brazilian is ‘close to returning’ from his hamstring injury and was simply not risked against Monaco on Wednesday night.
Gabriel is so important to Arsenal
Arsenal have been blessed with the centre-back pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel in recent years, although it’s rather gloomy when the duo are separated.
Not only is the Brazilian a top defender but is also a force to be reckoned with in front of goal, even leading to Troy Deeney comparing Gabriel to Didier Drogba.
| Stat | Average | Rank at Arsenal |
| Clearances | 3.2 | Most |
| Blocks | 1.4 | Most |
| Goals | 3 | =2nd |
Only Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka have more goals in the Premier League than the centre-back this season, emphasising the importance of Arsenal having him available.
It’s a considerable boost for Arteta ahead of Everton, in what will be a must-win showdown at the Emirates.
