Arsenal returned to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday as they beat Wolves to begin their Premier League campaign.

Goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka secured the three points and a clean sheet, although Gary O’Neil’s side did cause trouble when Arsenal went through a sloppy spell in the second half.

The atmosphere at the Emirates was slightly subdued at times, but this was not helped by the sound system frustrating Arsenal fans in the lower tier in between match action.

Mikel Arteta’s side are aiming to beat Manchester City in the title race at the third time of asking, but the increased quality within the Arsenal team also leads to increased pressure on each game, with no room for error.

Arsenal legend David Seaman has now claimed that he was surprised at the atmosphere at the Emirates during the Wolves clash.

David Seaman admits surprise at Arsenal fans during Wolves win

Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, the former goalkeeper highlighted the tension amongst fans when Wolves were presented with chances before Saka’s goal.

“I was at the game and it and and it was strange that at one nil, it felt comfortable, but then all of a sudden Wolves had a great chance with the header which Raya made a fantastic save, but then it was almost like that was actually a reminder, like ‘hang on a minute, we’re not comfortable,'” Seaman stated.

“Then we got the second goal and it was a lot easier, but I could still feel a little bit of tension in the crowd, which was strange.”

Arsenal fans at the Emirates feel the increased pressure

There is less buzz in the crowd at each individual win at the Emirates now, and this has been the case for the last year.

Given the quality needed to topple Man City, fans feel the pressure of every individual result, with dropped points in ‘easier’ games now seen as disastrous.

When Arsenal faced Wolves pressure, with William Saliba and Thomas Partey amongst those who caused trouble with their sloppiness in possession, fans were on edge given the possibility of a potential equaliser.

However, after Saka scored, fans were relieved. This may be a window into what the Emirates Stadium atmosphere will be like this season, but fans should also be wary that their nerves can feed into the team, and more composure may be needed as the season goes on.
