Jens Lehmann does not want Tottenham to go down.

Now, that might sound strange coming from a former Arsenal player, but his reason is simple.

The reality is that football is more fun when you’re playing against your rivals, and to lose the North London Derby would make the Premier League more boring.

Tottenham are currently in relegation trouble, and while many Arsenal fans would enjoy seeing their rivals drop into the second division, speaking on the Clutch9 Podcast, Lehmann has admitted that he wants to see Spurs stay up.

If Tottenham get relegated, who will Arsenal’s biggest rivals be next season?

Jens Lehmann wants Tottenham to stay up

The Arsenal legend shared why he wants Spurs to stay up.

The former goalkeeper explained his reasoning clearly by using an example from his home country, Germany.

Schalke were relegated from the Bundesliga a few years ago, and while Borussia Dortmund fans were happy initially, they now admit they miss the annual tradition of playing the Revierderby.

“I would be happy for them to stay up,” Lehmann said.

“For example, as I told you before, there was a situation in Germany where Schalke got relegated two years before and the Dortmund fans are happy about it. But when you ask the fans, they say, ‘Wow, we’re missing the derbies.’ And so you don’t really want Tottenham to go down.”

“Because, you know, I love to see these derbies Tottenham against Arsenal.”

Jens Lehmann’s record vs Tottenham

Jens Lehmann absolutely loves the North London Derby, and it’s not hard to understand why.

The game is one of the Premier League’s great spectacles, and Lehmann has seen that first hand.

Not only has Lehmann played in numerous North London Derbies, he’s actually never been on the losing side in this game.

While Spurs going down would be amusing for Arsenal fans, ultimately, the North London Derby is something to look forward to, not something to dread for fans.
