A round-up of the latest Arsenal news with the Gunners deciding on offering Takehiro Tomiyasu a new contract and Thierry Henry outlining his one ‘hope’ for Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal offer Takehiro Tomiyasu a new contract

Talks are ongoing between Arsenal and Tomiyasu over a new contract for the star defender. That is according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, who reports that the Gunners now want to tie the 25-year-old down with a long-term extension. His current deal will expire in 2025.

Arsenal have an option to extend Tomiyasu’s existing contract by a further 12 months. They included the clause when signing the 37-cap Japan star from Bologna in August 2021. Mikel Arteta wants Tomiyasu to agree a long-term extension that would feature a pay rise, though.

Tomiyasu is currently considering an official offer from Arsenal to renew his contract and the expectation is that he will sign one. But the Emirates Stadium outfit are unlikely to announce any new deal soon. It follows Tomiyasu playing in 18 of the Gunners’ 21 fixtures this season.

Manchester United are told to target Aaron Ramsdale’s transfer

Alan Brazil believes Andre Onana could have an uncertain future at Manchester United, who should explore replacing the goalkeeper with Arsenal outcast Aaron Ramsdale. Even though the Red Devils only signed their Cameroon international from Inter Milan for £47m this July.

Onana has drawn regular criticism for his performances for Manchester United and he cost Erik ten Hag’s squad at Galatasaray. The Super Lig side held the Red Devils to a 3-3 draw on Wednesday. They punished Onana’s errors to leave Manchester United bottom of Group A.

Ramsdale, meanwhile, would only watch on from the bench as Arsenal secured top spot in Group B with a 6-0 win over RC Lens. He has featured eight times this season but just three times since the September internationals. So, Brazil thinks Manchester United should move.

“Onana is an accident waiting to happen,” Brazil said on talkSPORT. “What about Ramsdale at Manchester United? I think if Ramsdale wants to go, he’ll get a move. He’s not playing!”

Brazil added: “There’s a new owner coming in now, he’s putting in £1.3billion. He might say: ‘Right, I’m now in charge of transfers – he goes. We’re not going to win anything with him.’

“Which would be harsh on Onana because he’s a good shot-stopper at times and he’s made some good saves. But you don’t become a multi-billionaire by luck. Ratcliffe will be ruthless.”

Thierry Henry ‘hopes’ Gabriel Jesus can be Arsenal’s 25-goal striker

Arsenal legend Henry ‘hopes’ Jesus can be the 25 goal-per-season striker that Arteta needs him to be in north London. The 1998 World Cup-winning France icon adores the composure the Brazilian can show in the box. But his form in front of the goal has been underwhelming.

Jesus displayed the composure Henry admires to help Arsenal beat Lens 6-0 with a goal and an assist. He fed Kai Havertz to break the deadlock before evading a defender and drilling in a low effort. But the 21st-minute goal only took the 26-year-old onto five so far this season.

Four of Jesus’ haul have come during Arsenal’s Champions League games having scored in each of his appearances so far. But the 64-cap Selecao star has only scored once from eight Premier League appearances. So, Arsenal legend Henry hopes Jesus can improve his form.

“I just love this,” Henry told CBS Sports, via quotes by the Mirror, about Jesus’ goal against Lens. “He did it against Manchester United, I don’t know if you remember, on the break.

“Everyone thought he was going to shoot, there. Watch how he does it – oops, chops and goes back. Gabriel Jesus is a very important player for us. Will he ever score 20-25? I hope so. But what he does in general, it’s just great for us.”
