Alan Brazil has now told Manchester United to replace Andre Onana with Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale as incoming owner Jim Ratcliffe will be ‘ruthless’ with their transfers.
British billionaire Ratcliffe is still finalising his £1.3bn takeover for 25% of Manchester United from the Glazer family. But reports by the Daily Mail suggest the INEOS chief will instruct the Red Devils’ transfer team to prioritise targeting homegrown players once he is put in charge.
Ratcliffe wants a greater domestic presence in their dressing room at Old Trafford. And Brazil feels Onana might be one player facing an uncertain future only five months after signing for the Red Devils. So, Manchester United ought to target a transfer for Ramsdale from Arsenal.
Ramsdale has an uncertain future for Arsenal after falling out of favour
Inter Milan sold Onana to Manchester United for £47m this July after helping them make the Champions League final. But Brazil has now dubbed the 27-year-old as an ‘accident waiting to happen’ given his struggles under Erik ten Hag. He has regularly looked nervy this season.
Ramsdale, meanwhile, is just sitting on the bench at Arsenal having lost the No1 spot to on-loan goalkeeper David Raya. The Brentford man has emerged as Mikel Arteta’s clear No1 for the Gunners. Emirates Stadium chiefs are even also ready to trigger the option to buy Raya.
Arteta recalled Ramsdale to Arsenal’s starting line-up in a Premier League fixture for the first time since September 3 last Saturday. Raya was ineligible to play his parent squad as Arsenal beat Brentford 1-0. Arteta started the loanee over the 25-year-old in their eight prior games.

It was not a faultless return for Ramsdale, either, as Kaya Kaynak reported Arteta wagged his finger ‘furiously’ at the shot-stopper. His return also followed reports by TEAMtalk, claiming Ramsdale is open to leaving Arsenal in January over fears of losing a spot in England’s team.
Brazil feels Manchester United should be one side to explore Ramsdale’s situation at Arsenal during the January transfer window. He expects Ratcliffe will be ‘ruthless’ and might want to replace a goalkeeper who dropped further clangers to gift Galatasaray goals on Wednesday.
“Onana is an accident waiting to happen,” Brazil said on talkSPORT. “What about Ramsdale at Manchester United? I think if Ramsdale wants to go, he’ll get a move. He’s not playing!”
Brazil added: “There’s a new owner coming in now, he’s putting in £1.3billion. He might say: ‘Right, I’m now in charge of transfers – he goes. We’re not going to win anything with him.’
“Which would be harsh on Onana because he’s a good shot-stopper at times and he’s made some good saves. But you don’t become a multi-billionaire by luck. Ratcliffe will be ruthless.”
