Arsenal will go into Christmas on a high having thrashed Crystal Palace 5-1 on Saturday.

Gabriel Jesus maintained his magnificent newfound form to grab a brace against Crystal Palace, before strikes from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, and Declan Rice secured a comfortable Premier League win for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta will be delighted with the performance that his side produced in South London. However, Bukayo Saka’s injury came as a major blow on an otherwise positive evening for the Gunners.

Arsenal were able to send a message to the rest of the Premier League that they still mean business in the title race with this performance.

Arsenal unbeaten in London derbies in 2024

Jesus maintained his own personal Premier League record of having never lost a game in the competition that he has scored in.

Meanwhile, Arsenal managed to notch an impressive top flight feat of their own with this win.

Victory over the Eagles meant that the Gunners will finish 2024 unbeaten in London derbies throughout the calendar year, as reported by Bleacher Report on Instagram.

The Gunners have faced ten capital city rivals in 2024, winning eight of those matches and drawing two.

The last London side to manage an unbeaten year in the city such as this was Chelsea, who achieved the feat under Jose Mourinho in 2005. The Blues won the 2004/05 and 2005/06 Premier League titles under the Portuguese coach.

Mikel Arteta has made Arsenal the kings of the capital

Chelsea’s Premier League titles that came with their capital city domination bode well for the Gunners.

Arsenal are still in this Premier League title race, but face an uphill battle to make up the ground on Liverpool, who are currently leading the way in the top flight.

However, Arteta can use the fact that his side have established themselves as the dominant force in London to motivate and inspire his players. Chelsea may well be in the title race themselves this time around, but they cannot claim superiority in their own city.

Of course, this statistic also means that Arsenal can claim bragging rights over their fierce North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, which will mean a great deal to the Emirates Stadium in and of itself.
