Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is now one of the most highly-rated coaches in world football, and there is no shortage of interest in him.

Barcelona were credited with an interest in Arteta earlier this year, when his former club were searching for a new manager, whilst Manchester City have also been mentioned as monitoring him over a future return to the Etihad Stadium.

Arteta has just one year remaining on his Arsenal contract, but there has been little to suggest that he is set to leave any time soon. His side are challenging for the title, and he is close to completing his dream squad build.

A new update has now emerged on Arteta’s contract, and it makes for pleasant reading for Arsenal fans, with the club also active in the transfer window.

Arsenal expect new Mikel Arteta contract to be signed soon

Fabrizio Romano has now reported in his Daily Briefing that Arteta is in discussions with Arsenal over a new contract, and this is set to be completed soon.

“We know he is discussing a contract extension that Arsenal expect to be done soon. The Spaniard is really influential in the market for Arsenal, together with Edu Gaspar, and Arteta is working a lot behind the scenes in terms of suggesting moves,” Romano revealed.

Arteta is now influencing transfer decisions more, and the signing of Riccardo Calafiori was reportedly confirmed after the player was promised that the Spaniard would sign a new deal at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta is important for Arsenal in the transfer market

Mikel Merino is closing in on a move to Arsenal, and the Spaniard rejected interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid as he was enamoured by the idea of playing under Arteta.

Calafiori was also a top target for him, and Romano has explained how Arteta’s influence on Arsenal’s transfers has increased.

“It was he who wanted Riccardo Calafiori as a priority target, and given that he’s now at Arsenal, the club clearly did an excellent job,” he added.

“Arteta is also behind this story for Mikel Merino because he knows the player so well, and has been monitoring him for a long time.”

Arteta will now sign a long-term deal, and with his young squad now shaping up to be one in his image, Arsenal fans will now hope that their popular manager can bring major trophies to the Emirates.
