Arsenal have recently issued a clear transfer message to Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has fallen down the pecking order this season.

The Gunners signed David Raya from Brentford in the recent summer transfer window, and soon after his arrival at the Emirates Stadium the Spanish shot-stopper usurped Ramsdale as the No. 1.

Mikel Arteta’s decision to demote him hit the England man hard. Ramsdale has spoken out publicly about the pain that losing his regular Arsenal starting berth caused him. Arteta himself also came in for criticism for his treatment of Ramsdale, who was an established fan-favourite at the Emirates Stadium and had been an impressive performer for the club in previous seasons.

At 25-years-old, Ramsdale needs to be playing regular football at this stage in his career. With Raya now Arteta’s clear first-choice between the sticks, and with Arsenal having to decided to activate the £27 million clause that will convert his loan move from Brentford into a permanent switch, it is now clear that Ramsdale will have to leave the north London club in order to get the game time he needs.

Arsenal send January transfer message to Aaron Ramsdale

However, the four-cap England international will not be going anywhere this month. According to The Athletic, Arsenal have told the goalkeeper “in no uncertain terms” that he is not available to any potentially interested suitors in the current January transfer window. However, the club do still expect him to depart in the summer.

Although Ramsdale clearly isn’t in Arteta’s long-term plans, it makes sense for the Gunners to retain his services for now.

Current third-choice ‘keeper Karl Hein is not ready to be second-in-line, and Arsenal do need a quality back-up option at their disposal should Raya be sidelined for any reason between now and the end of the campaign.
