Arsenal open contract talks with ‘underrated’ star who is transfer target for European giants

Andrea Berta is looking to secure several Arsenal players to new contracts this summer.

While new signings are of paramount importance to the sporting director, tying down key members of Mikel Arteta’s squad is seen as equally salient.

William Saliba is in contract talks with Arsenal amid interest from Real Madrid, while his centre-back partner Gabriel Magalhaes is also in line for a new deal.

Meanwhile, Saka is also negotiating fresh terms, although this imperative trio aren’t the only ones having conversations with the North London club about extending their stay at the Emirates.

Leandro Trossard in contract talks with Arsenal

Leandro Trossard has been in impressive form for Arsenal of late, and the Gunners seem to have responded to these performances by initiating contract talks with the 30-year-old.

The Belgian’s current deal expires in the summer of 2026, although it involves an option for an additional year.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are prepared to offer Trossard a new contract which would see him remain at the club until 2029.

The winger would be 34 by the time this deal ends, and it would be a surprise to see him still at the top of his game by this point in his career, certainly eliciting question marks about the nature of this prospective new contract.

Arsenal reportedly rejected an offer from Saudi club Al Ittihad for Trossard last summer, but suitors from the Middle Eastern league are expected to return for him this summer.

If the Gunners do indeed offer the former Brighton man a new four-year deal, you’d imagine he’d accept it with open arms, regardless of interest from Saudi Arabia.

AC Milan are interested in Leandro Trossard

Theo Walcott thinks Trossard is ‘underrated’, and the former Arsenal star may have a point based on the list of suitors supposedly interested in the player.

Italian publication Sempre Milan report that AC Milan are among the clubs monitoring Trossard’s situation, with a view to making a move for him.

Alongside the Rossoneri, Juventus and Napoli are also admirers of the Gunners’ wide forward, as well as three unnamed Premier League clubs.

If Arsenal are to receive a substantial offer for Trossard from Serie A or the Saudi Pro League, they should cash in rather than offering him a new contract.

The Belgium international has already shown signs of decline this season, and he’s only likely to get worse as he hits his early 30s.

If they don’t cash in now, Arsenal will never have another opportunity to sell the player, and could instead be left with an ageing forward who is no longer at the level.
