One Hale End academy starlet, who has already made his first team bow, will likely take another step in his development this summer.
Arsenal have a proud history of developing their own talents in-house, many of which go on to enjoy successful careers with the club or beyond.
Mikel Arteta, along with academy director Per Mertesacker, has certainly made efforts to ensure that this legacy endures. The Spanish coach has handed debuts and opportunities to young players, such as Charlie Patino and Ethan Nwaneri.
The latter of that Hale End duo became the youngest player in the club’s, and Premier League, history when he made his bow off the bench against Brentford in 2022, as a then-15-year-old. Now there is a plan to bring Nwaneri further into the Arsenal first team fold.
Last season, Arteta also handed a debut to Charles Sagoe Jr. In September 2023, the 19-year-old winger started a League Cup match, also against Brentford.
In the following winter transfer window, the teenager was allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium on loan, joining Championship side Swansea for the remainder of the campaign. However, his stint in the second tier was not a great success, as Sagoe Jr made just two appearances for the Welsh side.

Arsenal have summer plan for Charles Sagoe Jr
Having struggled at Swansea, it is clear that more development is needed before the attacker can be considered ready to compete for a consistent place in Arteta’s first team, if indeed he ever reaches that point.
Journalist Charles Watts has now provided his insight into what may come next for Sagoe Jr. Speaking on his Inside Arsenal YouTube channel, the reporter said: “I think he’ll go out on loan again this season, this summer. It might not be until towards the end of the summer.”
In the meantime, the youngster has been learning a new role. Sagoe Jr played as a left-back/left-wing-back in a recent friendly against Boreham Wood, rather than in his usual more advanced position.
Hale End gems in line for chance to shine for Arsenal
There is a chance that Sagoe Jr could be included in the Gunners’ upcoming tour of the US. Certainly, a number of promising Hale End players are expected to feature in the States.
The likes of Nwaneri, Patino, and Myles Lewis-Skelly will be amongst those most likely to enjoy significant game time in America.
