Arsenal could be set to join the next edition of the Club World Cup as FIFA look to make a potential change to the tournament format once again.

The summer competition has had a complete revamp for this summer, with a change in format creating an expansion of the old format.

Instead of taking place once a year with the Champions League winners of each governing body, the tournament will now take place every four years.

While winning the continental trophy can guarantee some UEFA participants will gain a spot, it’s not the only way to get in.

Coefficients and invites have been handed out to some clubs for them to take part, with plenty of prize money up for grabs.

While Arsenal aren’t in this year’s Club World Cup, they could be in the next one, thanks to a potential impending rule change.

Another expanded Club World Cup could see Arsenal make first appearance

While the first new edition of the Club World Cup hasn’t even kicked off yet, there could be even more changes just around the corner.

That’s because, according to the Guardian, FIFA will consult on the idea of expanding the tournament from 32 teams to 48 for 2029.

That will be if this summer’s edition is successful, with there being a feeling that some big teams have missed out.

Arsenal are among those, with rivals Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham also missing out from the Premier League clubs.

Other European giants such as AC Milan and Barcelona won’t be present, leading to questions about their absence.

If the expansion does lead to Arsenal’s involvement in the future, then it would likely please Stan Kroenke as the Arsenal owner would be set for a cash injection.

Stan Kroenke would be delighted with Club World Cup finance boost

If there’s one person who will be delighted by the news, it’s Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke.

Not only is it an opportunity for the Gunners to be involved in the competition, but there is a chance for more finance to be raised.

Kroenke wants Arsenal to be self-sufficient when it comes to finances, with any opportunity to raise revenues coming as a boost.

This year’s Club World Cup has prize money worth £740 million in total, with the winners receiving £93.2 million.

It’s unclear if the 2029 edition would receive similar backing or an even larger amount, but it would certainly help Arsenal.
