Arsenal’s recent form has seen them smash several records whilst tearing teams apart to remain competitive in the Premier League title race.

A 6-0 victory over Sheffield United last night meant they became the first-ever team in Premier League history to score five or more in three consecutive games.

Mikel Arteta’s side have now won seven league matches in a row, with their last dropped points coming on the final day of 2023 against Fulham.

Arsenal now have the best goal difference in the league, and are just two points off the top, but this run of seven wins has been historic for all the right reasons, and has put them in with a stronger chance of winning the title.

In fact, this run has been so good, that it has bettered any other seven game run in Premier League history. Whilst other teams have had much longer winning runs, none have seen the same level of output in front of goal.

Arsenal set new record with Premier League winning run

Arsenal’s seven victories in a row has seen them remarkably score 31 times, whilst conceding just three.

In terms of goals, this has beaten a Premier League record previously set by Manchester City, during the season in which Pep Guardiola’s team won the league with 100 points.

Man City’s best seven game stretch saw a selection of consecutive wins between September and October 2017, where City scored 30 and conceded four times.

This started with a 5-0 victory over Liverpool, before a 6-0 win at Watford and a 5-0 win against Crystal Palace. Guardiola’s side then went on to beat Chelsea 1-0, before a 7-2 thrashing of Stoke was followed by a 3-0 victory over Burnley and a narrow 3-2 win at West Brom.

City’s overall winning run in this instance was 18 games long, but this collection of seven consecutive wins was the Premier League record of the most goals in that length of time, until now.

Whilst the quality of some of the opposition teams can be questioned, this does put Arsenal’s winning run into perspective, as they have been utterly dominant in every single game and broke a Premier League away record with their sheer ruthlessness.

Arsenal have hit five or more goals in four of these seven games, whilst also scoring four against Newcastle and three against Liverpool in a must-win game in the title race.

City at their best were devastating, yet Arsenal have punished their recent opponents by even heavier scorelines.

The next step now, is for Arteta’s side to try and maintain their form in the same way City did for their huge 18-game winning run. If they can do that, they can go on to win a first league title since 2004.
