Arsenal beat Spurs 1-0 in the North London derby, with the centre-back’s goal representing the match-winner, capping off a superb performance from the 26-year-old.

Arsenal want to extend Gabriel’s contract

Arsenal have an imperious force in defence thanks to the combination of William Saliba and Gabriel, with Arteta having a lot to thank to duo for.

The Gunners extended Saliba’s contract in the summer of 2023, and are now looking to do the same with Gabriel, as Arsenal Insider sources understand.

It’s understood that Arteta and Edu’s stance on the Brazilian is abundantly clear, with the centre-back described as a player who Arsenal ‘love’ and want to keep around.

Arsenal are aware that they have one of the best centre-back partnerships in Europe in the pair, with Gabriel seen as a significant part of the club’s progression.

Talk of a new contract has emerged as interest in the defender has started to grow, with Arsenal not looking to sell the 26-year-old under any circumstance in the near future, hence why a new contract is in the works.

Gabriel deserves his flowers after North London derby heroics

There are very few people in North London who would be opposed to Gabriel signing a new deal, particularly after his performance against Tottenham.

Not only did the Brazil international net the match-winner, but he showed an exemplary level of commitment to the club defensively, seeing him crowned man of the match.

The defender’s celebrations with the Arsenal fans after his goal made it clear how much he loves the club he represents, with his explosive passion on show as he reacted to heading the Gunners in front.

There are very few players in Arteta’s squad as deserving of a new deal than Gabriel, who has been on the journey in North London since 2020, experiencing the ups and downs along the way.
