Arsenal star at risk of Premier League ban after referee decision as Mikel Arteta faces difficult selection

Arsenal are in the midst of a small selection crisis within the team as Mikel Arteta looks to pick through his team for fresh options.

The Gunners have a cluster of injuries in key areas, with the manager tasked with finding solutions to those issues.

The right-wing is one area to be mindful of, following injuries to Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling, which looks set to sideline the pair for a while.

At the back, there have been further problems with recent absences for Riccardo Calafiori, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

While there is some easing of these problems, Mikel Arteta could do without any more Arsenal players going out of action.

Another one is at risk of a potential suspension though, which could come as a huge blow to the side.

Jurrien Timber on verge of Arsenal suspension with yellow cards

One player who is on the verge of a potential ban for one match is Jurrien Timber, as he nears the threshold for yellow cards.

The defender is now on four in the Premier League for the season, with a fifth signalling a one-match suspension in the division.

There will be some frustration with how he has reached that point, having picked up the most recent yellow against Crystal Palace.

The referee awarded the caution for timewasting in the 36th minute of the tie at Selhurst Park, seemingly delaying a throw-in.

It may be seen as an unnecessary booking that now puts him on the brink of a possible suspension ahead of games against Ipswich and Brentford.

Should Timber get a suspension, it would come as a blow given how important he has been this season with his performances.

Whether that means Arteta decides against selecting the star or not remains to be seen, though the reset point for cards is coming soon.

When do yellow cards reset in the Premier League?

Fortunately for those walking a suspension tightrope in the Premier League, the reset threshold is approaching quickly.

The halfway point represents the point at which five yellow cards for a ban is increased to ten, preventing anyone from being suspended for hitting that point.

For Arsenal and Timber in particular, it means getting through games against Ipswich and Brentford unscathed to have a full squad in selection.

It remains to be seen if they can do that, but it may be unwise to get the defender or any other players not playing their natural game just to avoid a card.
