Arsenal star Leandro Trossard has had a strong first year at the Emirates since his arrival from Brighton, and connected with his teammates well on and off the pitch.

The 29-year-old quickly became a popular figure at the club after a fast start saw him notch up 10 assists in his first few months in North London.

Trossard has played in several different positions, including as a false nine, and he helped get the best out of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka at times last season, which also saw him provide three assists in one half against Fulham.

He has scored seven goals for the club since his arrival, and remarkably, all seven were assisted by Saka.

Speaking to official club media, Trossard opened up on his relationship with the England winger, and explained why he thrives when playing alongside him.

“I don’t know why but every time B [Bukayo Saka] is on the ball, I just know I need to make a movement or come close to him,” he stated.

“Against Burnley recently, I just gambled on him winning the header and he did – and that’s why I got the goal.

“I get along with B really well. He’s such a lovely guy and always down to earth. You can speak to him about everything and it’s nice to chat to him.

“I always try to get in the right positions and, so far, it’s been B who has set up my goals. But I’m sure there will be someone else in the next games or that I will assist other team-mates.”

What is Trossard’s best position for Arsenal?

The Belgian International has played on both wings, as well as in the middle as both a striker and an attacking midfielder.

In recent months, he has delivered inconsistent performances when coming on as a winger for Martinelli, and Arsenal often lose speed in attack when he is on the wing.

His best performances have arguably come in the middle, which allows him to get closer to goal, whilst also providing a strong passing link for both wingers to play off.

Trossard has provided just two assists this season, but did score a crucial equaliser against Chelsea, whilst also netting a stunning winner against Everton.

With Kai Havertz now suspended against West Ham, he may have an opportunity to play in a midfield role again, and if he can put in a strong performance, then he has a shot at keeping his place despite Havertz impressing in recent weeks.
