Arsenal have multiple players who are a nightmare for defenders to play against.

Mikel Arteta has built a terrific squad over the years, and his players finally won the Premier League title last season.

Although Viktor Gyokeres made the difference up top for large parts of the season, it was Kai Havertz whom Arteta put his full trust in later on in the campaign.

Now, the German has had his say on his style of play.

Is Kai Havertz’s change in build positive or negative for Arsenal’s attack? Let us know your thoughts.

Arsenal star Kai Havertz says he is the ‘worst’ player for defenders to face

Havertz has a very unique style of play.

The German grew up as a central attacking midfielder, but he has transformed into a hybrid of that role and a number nine.

For both Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as the German national team, Havertz plays in an unorthodox position where most of his good work comes off the ball.

Most casual fans find it difficult to understand that side of the game, which is why some of them call Havertz ‘useless’ among other things.

However, the defenders who face the German just hate playing against him.

Speaking about his style, Havertz told The Guardian: “Defenders should never know where I am, where I’m going, what I’m planning, or where I’ll be at any given moment.

“That’s the worst for them. I try to be like a ghost to defenders.

“I can’t just wait around in the penalty area; I need to be involved. I also make runs which I know sometimes look pointless, but I’m creating space for the players coming up behind me.”

Kai Havertz is the most misunderstood footballer in the world

People who don’t understand football cannot understand Havertz.

The German is a manager’s dream. He sacrifices himself for the good of the team constantly and makes everyone around him better.

It is no coincidence that Arsenal’s attack flows a lot better every time Havertz starts up top. That is why Mikel Arteta trusts him in the big games.

However, just because he doesn’t score in every game, people jump on his back and criticise him to no end, all while ignoring all the other good things he does.

That is why Havertz is the most misunderstood footballer in the world.
