Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney and his Scotland side were beaten by Denmark last night and Steve Clarke’s tactics in the first half has come under a lot of criticism.
Tierney, like most Arsenal players, has had a torrid time with respect to results. His performances, individually, have not been bad at all, but the results have not gone the Gunners’ way, and it looks like he hasn’t had much luck with Scotland either.
Tierney started at left-wing back yesterday as Scotland succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to the Danes. Two goals in the space of a minute in the first half from Daniel Wass and Joakim Maehle was enough for Denmark to pick up the win.
Kieran Tierney rated 5/10 after Denmark 2-0 Scotland
Scottish outlet Daily Record have released their player ratings for the game yesterday and the Arsenal man wasn’t among the top like he usually is. He was rated 5/10 and was criticised for not marking his man for the first of Denmark’s two goals.
The review on The Daily Record read: “So often Scotland’s Mr Reliable, but left Steve Clarke’s team facing an uphill battle when he failed to check the run of Daniel Wass for Denmark’s first goal.”
Tactics didn’t help Tierney
Tierney has almost always played on the left side of central defence for Scotland with Andy Robertson starting at left wing-back. However, Clarke decided to surprise everyone when he changed his two best players’ roles.

Robertson played as a right wing-back in the first half with Tierney starting on the opposite side. That cost Scotland the balance they usually have, and it’s no surprise that Denmark finished the game off before we even got to half-time.

Tierney and Robertson returned to their usual positions in the second half and Scotland looked a lot better. Sadly, that wasn’t enough to get them a win and they now have a lot to do if they want to qualify for Qatar 2022.
