Robbie Mustoe believes one Arsenal player will be ‘amazing’ under Mikel Arteta, but he hasn’t yet seen the individual perform at his best level this season.
The Gunners are enjoying an outstanding campaign, winning 13 of their 16 matches across all competitions, while conceding just five goals in the process.
Mikel Arteta’s team did drop two points away at Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, in a result that sees their points gap to Manchester City reduced to just four.
While the majority of the North Londoners’ squad is performing excellently, Mustoe has highlighted one Arsenal player he’s not convinced is at the moment.

Robbie Mustoe says Eberechi Eze will be ‘amazing’ for Arsenal
Arsenal spent £67.5 million on Eberechi Eze in the summer, and it’s fair to suggest he hasn’t justified this price tag just yet.
While he’s still adapting to a new system and acclimatising to his new teammates, the Gunners would certainly have hoped for more from the attacking midfielder.
Eze was poor against Sunderland at the weekend, finding it difficult to influence the game against a stubborn Black Cats low block.
Many fans are starting to suggest that he’ll look better from the left once Martin Odegaard has returned from injury, and it is possible that this position will feel more familiar to him, given he played as a left-sided forward in a 3-4-3 for Crystal Palace.
Speaking on the 2 Robbies Podcast, Mustoe revealed that he still thinks Eze will be ‘amazing’ for Arsenal, but he hasn’t been yet.
“I know that they’ve got Madueke and Eberechi Eze, who didn’t really affect it [the Sunderland game],” the pundit said.
“It wasn’t really an Eze game for me, and I’m still [yet to see it], there’s going to be games where he’s going to be amazing, but it wasn’t one of these.”

Leandro Trossard is outperforming Eberechi Eze at the moment
Arsenal fans were desperate to sign Eze in the summer and see Leandro Trossard play a more peripheral role this season.
However, Trossard is thriving at the moment for the Gunners, registering more goal contributions than anyone else in Arteta’s squad this term, while Eze is struggling.
| Statistical Comparison 2025/26 (League Only) | ||
| Stat | Eze | Trossard |
| Appearances | 9 | 9 |
| Goals | 1 | 2 |
| Assists | 2 | 2 |
| Shots per 90 | 2.77 | 2.10 |
| Expected Goals per 90 | 0.23 | 0.25 |
| Key Passes per 90 | 0.72 | 1.27 |
| Expected Assists per 90 | 0.14 | 0.15 |
| Successful Take-ons per 90 | 1.45 | 0.99 |
While the new signing is taking more shots than his counterpart, he’s taking them from less threatening positions. Trossard is also doing more creatively, with his eye of the needle passes from out wide and into the penalty box causing havoc for the opposition.
We’re seeing little invention from Eze that is similar to this, and he must start producing more in this aspect of the game, as this is essentially what he was bought for.
