Journalist Art de Roche has now sent a warning to Arsenal about how they need to learn from past mistakes in the wake of their win over Liverpool.
Arsenal roared back into the Premier League title race with a 3-1 victory over league leaders Liverpool on Sunday.
However, there is now pressure on the Gunners to build on that result.
Starting with their trip to West Ham United on Sunday, Mikel Arteta’s side need to show that they can maintain the kind of consistency that is the virtue of champions. After all, their landmark win over the Merseyside outfit will soon count for nothing if they start dropping points against sides that they would be considered the favourites to beat.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has already told Arsenal where their focus now needs to be if they are to stand any chance to stealing Manchester City’s Premier League crown this season.
Arteta will also be all too aware that his player’s cannot afford to show any complacency against the Hammers or take the east Londoners lightly. West Ham United have players who are capable of hurting Arsenal if they are not at their best.
On top of that, David Moyes’ team are likely to sit deep and remain compact for much of the match, inviting Arsenal to try to open them up. There have been numerous previous occasions this season when the Gunners have struggled when coming up against such an approach, and have also been profligate with the chances they have managed to create. Arsenal must be clinical in front of goal at the London Stadium.
Arsenal told to build on Liverpool result
Speaking on The Arsenal Beat podcast, Art de Roche urged the north London outfit not to let their good work against Liverpool go to waste now. The reporter said, “yes, it’s a great result, but earlier in the season they beat Manchester City and then they have those poor performances and results against Fulham and West Ham…Yes, great result, but you need to actually build on it properly.”
Indeed, after beating Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium earlier this season, Arsenal followed that statement result up with dropped points at Stamford Bridge, and then latterly were knocked out of the EFL Cup by West Ham United.
Given the patch of poor form they endured over the New Year period, Arsenal have precious little margin for error left available to them. If they want to win the title this season, they will likely have to be close to perfect for the remainder of the campaign.
