Arsenal kept their Premier League winning streak going with a 2-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday evening.
Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table with their triumph over Brentford.
Mikel Arteta’s side were not given an easy ride of things by the Bees. The Gunners came into this clash having won their last four Premier League fixtures by huge margins, as they beat West Ham United 6-0, Burnley 5-0, Newcastle United 4-1, and Sheffield United 6-0. Thomas Frank’s side presented a far sterner test, though.
Declan Rice continued his own sensational season in front of goal as he nodded home Ben White’s cross in the first half to put Arsenal 1-0 up. The Gunners were largely dominant in this opening period, but disaster struck on the stroke on half-time. Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was guilty of a calamitous error, which allowed Yoane Wissa to level things up.
The north London outfit fought back and piled on the pressure after the break, and finally got their reward in the 86th minute. White put in another perfect cross, and this time it was Kai Havertz on the end of it. Havertz achieved a personal first in the Premier League as he powered a header into the back of the net from close range, sending the Emirates Stadium faithful into raptures.

Arsenal form is up there with past Premier League champions
With his earlier error atoned for, Arteta was quick to celebrate with Ramsdale after the final whistle. In terms of the title race, Arsenal have now piled the pressure on Manchester City and Liverpool, who will face-off against each other at Anfield this afternoon. The Gunners can watch on in the comfort of knowing that they already have three points in the bag.
Arsenal are very much in this title race, and their recent form certainly suggests that they have what it takes to be crowned champions come the end of the campaign. As reported by Opta after their win over Brentford, Arsenal became only the fourth team in Premier League history to win their first eight league games of a calendar year. The last three sides to do so, Manchester United in 2009, Liverpool in 2020, and Manchester City in 2021, all went on to win the title.
There is still a long way to go this season, and Liverpool and Manchester City both hold certain advantages over Arsenal, but the Gunners certainly can’t be ruled out.
