Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the future of Arsenal youngster Chido Obi.
Chido Obi is one of the most highly-rated youth prospects currently on the books at Arsenal.
The 16-year-old forward has already attracted plenty of attention with his performances at youth level for the Gunners. Earlier this season, in a clash against Liverpool under-16s, the teenager grabbed headlines with a remarkable 10-goal haul as Arsenal crushed the Reds by a 14-3 scoreline.
The young Dane has already been compared with Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen.
Clearly, then, Arsenal have a major talent on their hands. Now, though, the north London club are at risking of seeing Obi poached away from them.
Due to restrictions in British law, Arsenal cannot offer Obi professional terms until he turns 17 in November. Those same rules do not apply in Germany, however. The youngster is now being monitored by Borussia Dortmund, who could table a professional contract offer immediately.
However, Fabrizio Romano does not believe that Arsenal are in any immediate danger of losing Obi. Writing in his Daily Briefing, the Italian reporter stated, “this Arsenal wonderkid was recently linked with Borussia Dortmund. Of course, BVB are always tracking talents around the world, they know the boy well and they’ve been scouting him multiple times but, but there’s nothing else so far. He’s an important piece of Arsenal’s future and so there’s nothing imminent happening.”

What do Arsenal have planned for Chido Obi?
Arsenal fans will be delighted to learn that the club feel confident that they can retain Obi’s services. They will surely be prepared to offer the player a professional contract the moment that they are able to, assuming that he is still on the books at Arsenal at that stage.
Mikel Arteta will be abundantly aware of the promise that Obi is showing. Clearly, the Denmark under-17 international is already being considered in the club’s long-term plans. It will be fascinating to see if Obi starts training with the first team group regularly next season and making appearances on the Arsenal bench, assuming they are able to keep him at the club.
Eventually, Arsenal may even opt to loan Obi out, so that he can get a taste of first time football elsewhere for a while. Alternatively, he could follow in the footsteps of Bukayo Saka and push straight into the first team without ever needing a temporary stint at another club to adjust to the demands of senior football.
One thing that is certain is that if Obi remains at Arsenal, there will be plenty of excitement about him in the coming years.
