Arsenal are looking at potential midfield signings this summer and could end up battling with Man United for Atalanta star, Ederson.

Ederson has long been on the radar of Premier League clubs and has come close to joining both Tottenham and Newcastle in the past.

However, with his contract set to expire in 2027 and no sign of a new deal being done, Ederson is expected to move on from Serie A this summer.

And according to Ben Jacobs, Arsenal are right there waiting.

Arsenal and Manchester United want to sign Ederson

At 26, Ederson is at the point where his best few years are about to happen and it makes sense for him to move on this summer if he is to leave Atalanta.

According to Ben Jacobs, there is interest in Ederson from Atletico Madrid but they are struggling to do a deal, meaning Arsenal and Man United are primed to swoop in.

The Italian side values Ederson around the £40m mark. That sort of fee is easily doable for a Premier League club and some would say it’s a bargain in the modern game.

Ederson is closing in on making 200 appearances for the Serie A side and has been a key component in their recent successes in European competition.

Known for his combative style in the middle of the park, Ederson would bring a different style of midfielder to The Emirates.

Ederson can be a cheaper Sandro Tonali alternative for Arsenal

It’s become pretty obvious that Arsenal are going to sign a midfielder this summer. They are being linked with a few already, with Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali being one.

However, Tonali is going to cost north of £75m. That figure might just be too much, meaning Ederson suddenly becomes a very viable option.

Interestingly, adding a player like Ederson to the squad would allow both Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi to venture that bit further forward.

Ederson is very much in the Casemiro mold of player, meaning he would naturally sit in and defend.

Whether or not that’s what Mikel Arteta wants, remains to be seen. But after being linked with a move to England for so long, it seems like now is the time for Ederson to pull the trigger.
