What Sandro Tonali really thinks about Newcastle amid interest from Arsenal

Sandro Tonali to Arsenal or Man United could well be the transfer story of the summer as Newcastle face a battle to keep their man.

Tonali was linked with Arsenal on deadline day but no move came about given the size and nature of any potential deal.

However, Arsenal’s interest is there and come the summer, the Gunners might just make their move.

Interestingly, Manchester United are also keen on Tonali, and according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Newcastle are hoping for a calmer resolution than when Alexander Isak forced his way to Liverpool.

Why Sandro Tonali respects Newcastle more than Alexander Isak

Speaking on the United Stand podcast, Jacobs got onto the subject of Tonali, given he has interest from Old Trafford as well.

And according to Jacobs, Tonali’s situation might well differ from that of Isak at Newcastle.

“I think the player is exploring options even though he signed a new deal kind of discreetly during his gambling ban,” Jacobs revealed.

“And the issue compared to Alexander Isak in terms of getting the player out of Newcastle is I’m told Tonali is much more appreciative of Newcastle United and everything they did when he was suspended for those breaches of the gambling rules.

“So, I would be surprised, might be famous last words because we probably thought this about Isak six months ago, but I would be surprised if Sandro Tonali does an Alexander Isak and actively forces his way out of the football club in the summer by ostracising himself.”

Arsenal have to be ready to strike for Tonali

There is no way Arsenal are not going to have their name in the hat if Tonali is allowed to move.

He is too good of a player and frankly, plays in a position where Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are likely to look at improving.

For any deal to be done with Tonali, it’s going to rely on big numbers and a complex set of negotiations.

This is where Andrea Berta and his transfer team need to be ready. There can be no missing the boat with this one and allowing United or someone else to steal a march.

If Tonali is to move on, and stay in England, then Arsenal have to be quick in doing all they can to get him.
