According to a report from The Mirror, Arsenal will offer Granit Xhaka in exchange for a first refusal clause on Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria.
Xhaka already has one foot out of the door after his altercation with the home fans a few weeks ago. The Swiss international was removed as the club captain and he hasn’t featured for us since the incident.

Arsenal now plan to sell Xhaka and if the reports are to be believed, we are being smart about it. The Gunners will try to send Xhaka back to Monchengladbach and demand a first refusal clause on Denis Zakaria.
Gunners News suggested a similar idea on the 8th of November where instead of a first refusal clause, we hoped for a cash plus Xhaka offer for his compatriot in the January transfer window.

Zakaria has played every single game for the Bundesliga giants in all competitions so far this season. The 22-year-old’s performances have helped Gladbach move up to the top of the table. They are four points ahead of Bayern Munich and if things go their way in the next few months, they have a good chance of staying at the top.
Signing Zakaria will help Torreira:
A move in January is highly unlikely but signing him in the summer is a serious possibility. Playing Zakaria at the base of our midfield will allow Emery to successfully implement the idea of playing Torreira as a box-to-box midfielder.

Torreira, contrary to most fans’ opinions, is a very good option higher up the pitch. The Uruguayan is good on the ball, makes excellent runs into the box and has a good shot on him. However, the biggest issue for Arsenal is that we don’t have another Torreira to sit back and defend when we lose possession.
Zakaria as a number six will give Torreira all the freedom he needs to have an impact in the final-third. A midfield diamond of the Swissman, Torriera, Guendouzi and Ozil would be perfect for Arsenal in attack and in defence. Arsenal desperately need this balance and signing Zakaria will give them just that.
