Arsenal have a lot of talented youngsters in the Hale End Academy, with some on the verge of a first-team breakthrough.

All the focus is currently on Ethan Nwaneri, who could even be handed his first Premier League start against Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby.

Myles Lewis-Skelly is also attracting positive attention after excelling in pre-season under Mikel Arteta, alongside Ayden Heaven and Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand.

However, it is a different player who is currently thriving in the academy, as Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has won the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

Arsenal youngster Nathan Butler-Oyedeji wins Premier League award

Butler-Oyedeji is a 21-year-old winger who has started the season superbly. The Arsenal under-21s have recorded three victories from their opening three games, with the attacker at the heart of it.

He has recorded four goals and two assists in these games, with a goal and an assist in an excellent 4-2 win over Manchester United, a brace against Wolves and another goal and assist display against Aston Villa.

Butler-Oyedeji even captained the side against Wolves and Villa, and following the exits of Charles Sagoe Jr and Amario Cozier-Duberry, he is now stepping up as a key winger.

Speaking to club media after winning his award, Butler-Oyedeji has highlighted his desire to further improve in front of goal.

“It feels good. It feels like an honour. I’m happy to win the award and, most importantly, help my teammates through the month of August,” he stated.

“I just try to get my head down and I have good players playing the chances through to me. My focus from the start of the season has been to a be a bit more productive and deadly in front of goal.”

Butler-Oyedeji will now hope to keep up his excellent run of form. With the Arsenal first-team facing a busy schedule, he will be aiming for a place in the squad for their Carabao Cup third-round tie against Bolton Wanderers later this month.
