Gabriel Martinelli was the hero in Brazil’s Round of 32 win over Japan, and after the game, Rodrygo Goes sent a message to the Arsenal attacker.

The Arsenal winger netted a 95th-minute winner against Japan, which is the latest goal ever scored in normal time at a World Cup.

Martinelli looked great off the bench in a midfield role, and his efforts were rewarded with the winning goal for his nation.

Following the match, one of the Gunners’ long-term transfer targets issued a message to the match-winner.

Rodrygo Goes sends a message to Gabriel Martinelli

Rodrygo Goes has dropped a message to Gabriel Martinelli on Instagram following his winning goal for Brazil.

The Real Madrid star has a new nickname for the Arsenal winger, commenting on his social media post: “Martigollll”.

Martinelli saved the blushes of his nation with a late goal against Japan, as they avoided another upset at the World Cup.

Holland and Germany were both dumped out of the tournament by weaker teams, but Brazil are safely through to the Round of 32.

Martinelli really impressed in a left-sided midfield role, and it could be something Mikel Arteta explores if the Brazilian stays at the Emirates Stadium.

Why Rodrygo Goes is missing the World Cup

Rodrygo misses the World Cup with a bad knee injury and has been sidelined since the start of March with an ACL injury.

Last summer, Rodrygo was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, but the Gunners never ended up pushing through with their interest.

Madrid wanted £87m for Rodrygo, but Arsenal opted to stick with Martinelli and Trossard.

That could change this summer, though, with both players now set to leave, with a new left winger being targeted.

Rodrygo could have been one of the players Andrea Berta might have moved for, with the Brazilian having remained on his list.

However, the 25-year-old remains some time away from making a full return from his ACL injury.
