Arsenal’s board have given Andrea Berta one key task ‘internally’ that has been a problem for years

Andrea Berta has officially arrived at Arsenal.

The Italian emerged as the Gunners’ top choice to replace Edu Gaspar, and although it took a while to be announced, it’s all done.

Berta was in attendance at Arsenal’s win over Fulham, and the 53-year-old has already started working on numerous deals ahead of the summer transfer window.

All eyes will be on who Berta will bring in, but the Arsenal board have tasked the sporting director to solve another issue that has been hurting the club for many years.

Arsenal want Andrea Berta to improve player sales

Arsenal have been really poor sellers over the years.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s £35 million move to Liverpool nearly eight years ago is still the Gunners’ record sale, which is abysmal.

Many of Arsenal’s rivals have sold players for significantly more than the above figure, which further shows that the Gunners have to improve on this front.

Edu did well last summer with the sales of Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale, but the aim should be to get much more money than they did.

The Mirror have now revealed that ‘internally, Berta has been tasked with improving the transfer fees Arsenal receive when selling players’.

That is a key area ahead of this summer’s transfer window as the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson and Jakub Kiwior, among others, are expected to be sold.

It won’t be easy, but Berta should be aiming to get more money than Edu would’ve got for the above players.

Andrea Berta’s biggest sales at Atletico Madrid

Berta spent over a decade at Atletico Madrid.

The Italian oversaw several big transfers during his time at the Spanish capital along with Diego Simeone – both incomings and outgoings.

Here are his biggest sales:

PlayerSold toTransfer fee
Antoine GriezmannBarcelona£107m
Lucas HernandezBayern Munich£68m
RodriManchester City£62.8m
Joao FelixChelsea£46.3m
Thomas ParteyArsenal£45m

As the table above shows, Berta has signed off on some big sales, which should excite Arsenal fans ahead of the summer transfer window.

In the case of three of the five names on the list, Atleti received the full value of the release clause they had inserted in the players’ contracts.

That is once again a good sign, as it shows that Berta does not budge in transfer negotiations.
