Arsenal are preparing for a huge summer at the club and have got off to an impressive start with a new sporting director set to be announced.

Andrea Berta is set to be appointed in the ‘next hours’ according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio and the Italian has to hit the ground running at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta has instructed Berta to sign Nico Williams upon his arrival at the club and a centre forward will also be at the top of his summer wish list.

Selling players will also be a priority for Berta in order to comply with PSR rulings and free up space within Arteta’s competitive Arsenal first-team squad. The sporting director will need to get to work immediately.

When Arsenal fans can expect to see Andrea Berta

According to BBC Sport, Arsenal are hopeful that 53-year-old Berta will be in attendance for the club’s upcoming Premier League clash against Fulham on April 1st.

Berta is due to arrive in London within the next 72 hours and will begin work straight away given the size of the task ahead of him at the Gunners.

His pedigree speaks for itself in terms of recruitment, having played a huge part in bringing the likes of Rodri, Jan Oblak and Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid.

He will now be hoping to replicate that success alongside Arteta with a decisive summer window of incoming and departures ahead.

Berta described as ‘one of the three best’ sporting directors

As per Football Transfers, Berta has been described as ‘one of the three best’ sporting directors in the world by former Liverpool technical director Luis Rondriguez.

Rondriguez stated to Marca: ““Andrea Berta is one of the three best sporting directors in the world. The level of Atletico Madrid today is his legacy. He gave his all, he started in the morning and would continue working into the night.”

Berta’s first task could be fending off Real Madrid interest in Arsenal target Martin Zubimendi with the Gunners having already agreed personal terms with the Spanish midfielder.

Securing long term contracts of Bukayo Saka and William Saliba are also high on the priority list as Berta enters the fray looking to make an immediate impact.
