Arsenal will face PSV Eindhoven in the last-16 of the Champions League.

The Gunners have never won the Champions League after suffering a heart breaking 2-1 final to defeat to Barcelona back in 2006 in Paris.

The draw means that they will be facing PSV managed by Peter Bosz and Arsenal have a worrying record against Dutch sides.

Some fans may already be looking at Arsenal’s route to the final however, a word of caution given that PSV have some pedigree from this fixture before.

PSV Eindhoven beat Arsenal in the Champions League last-16 in 2007

Back in 2007, Arsenal were just getting used to life at their new Emirates Stadium under Arsene Wenger and welcome a PSV side in the last-16 of the Champions League.

PSV had won the first leg 1-0 at home and it was expected that Wenger’s side would have no problems in turning around the deficit.

The Gunners took the lead when former Chelsea defender Alex turned the ball past his own keeper and the momentum was with the English club in the match.

However, with just seven minutes left on the clock the Brazilian Alex made up for his earlier error by heading home from a corner to embarrass the Gunners and knock them out of the Champions League.

It remains the last time that PSV progressed to the quarter final of the competition and Mikel Arteta will do well to remind his players that nothing can be taken for granted this time around.

PSV overturned first leg deficit to beat Arsenal target Dusan Vlahovic’s Juventus target

PSV booked their place to face Arsenal by overcoming a difficult task in Dusan Vlahovic’s Juventus side, winning 4-3 on aggregate.

Arsenal have held a long term interest in Vlahovic but his efforts weren’t enough to stop a vibrant PSV side from knocking out the Italian giants.

Former Spurs player Ivan Perisic was on the scoresheet for the Dutch side before Ryan Flamingo score the winning goal after the game went to extra time.

It will be no easy task for Arsenal to progress in the tie, with the first leg in Holland before returning to the Emirates for the all-important second leg.
