Arsene Wenger enjoyed an illustrious career at Arsenal and is widely regarded as the greatest manager the club have ever had.

Wenger won three Premier League titles during his reign at Arsenal and won the FA Cup more than any other manager in the history of the game with seven during his 22 years in North London.

He was an integral driving force behind the move to the Emirates Stadium and Wenger unearthed some incredible Arsenal signings during his managerial spell.

However, there was some discontent with the Frenchman towards the end of his time at the club and he once admitted a huge ‘mistake’ that he made as the Gunners boss – it cost him many more trophies during his time.

Arsene Wenger admitted Didier Drogba ‘mistake’

As per the Mail Online in 2009, Wenger once admitted his ‘mistake’ of not signing former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba for just £100k when he was still an unknown entity in France.

Wenger stated: “We watched him carefully when he was at Le Mans, It was not only us who watched him. But we felt he might not be completely ready.

“It was a mistake but, when you are in football, everyone can understand. We had Thierry Henry. We said we would follow Drogba’s progress. We never ruled him out.”

The former Arsenal boss went on to explain how Chelsea took their opportunity on Drogba when he was making his name at Marseille later on in his career.

Wenger explained: “He wanted to stay in France, Marseille were the club of his dreams, I think they still are. But when he was in Marseille, Chelsea came in.”

Drogba haunted Arsenal during his Chelsea career

Drogba recently made a shock revelation about Thierry Henry by claiming he should have won the Ballon d’Or multiple times.

However the Ivorian will be remembered by Arsenal fans as the player who crushed their dreams time and time again after he developed a habit of not only scoring against the Gunners but bullying the defender in his wake.

He won a total of ten games against Wenger’s side in 15 appearances, amassing an incredible 13 goals along the way.

Perhaps the most devastating for Arsenal fans will be his brace in the 2007 League Cup final after Theo Walcott had put the Gunners in charge during the game with the opener.

Wenger never lifted the League cup during his spell at Arsenal and lost out on many crucial Premier League points too thanks to the powerful Ivorian that he didn’t sign.
