Pundit Adrian Clarke has suggested Arsenal should sign someone similar to one of Tottenham’s star players this summer.

The upcoming transfer window is expected to be a massive one for the Gunners, with a number of big-name players expected to depart the Emirates Stadium in what could be another huge squad overhaul from Mikel Arteta.

As well as outgoings, new signings are expected at Arsenal, with the north London side likely to invest in a new midfielder and attacker, as well as the backline with a number of defensive players due to leave in the coming months.

And Arsenal have now been suggested to sign someone similar to a Tottenham player.

Arsenal told to sign a left-back similar to Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie

Speaking on the Handbrake Off podcast, pundit Clarke made the suggestion that Arsenal need a left-back with the ability to play the centre-back role as well as the attacking intent to go forward, much like Tottenham youngster Destiny Udogie.

Signed from Udinese for £15m, Udogie has this season been one of the breakout stars in the Premier League for Spurs, and the Italian international is certainly a player who Arsenal could do with in the squad if a similar option can be found.

Clarke said on who Arsenal should look to sign this summer: “I would go for a left-footed defender. Personally, I’d go for someone who’s quick and well-rounded. I don’t know who this player is, but basically someone like Tierney.

“Someone that can play as a left-sided centre-back but someone who can also offer you that width going forward that can tuck into midfield, someone like the Spurs kid, Destiny Udogie, that’s something we lack, someone who can defend, invert and fly forward, someone in that mold is what I would do.”

Arteta could do with a fast fullback in the squad

Given how the role of fullback has developed over the years, pace has become less important for a defender to thrive in the position, though there’s no doubt that the likes of Kyle Walker and Alphonso Davies wouldn’t be as good without their speed.

And for Arsenal, having the option of a fast fullback who can also be versatile is something that could be of great use for Arteta, who has shown that he is a fan of players who can operate in multiple positions across the pitch.

Indeed, signing a fast and young left-sided fullback could be a smart move from Arsenal, yet the trouble soon becomes who could fill such a niche criteria in the upcoming transfer market.
