Ben Foster has named the signing Arsenal must now make if they want to be “neck and neck with Liverpool”.

Arsenal have been busy strengthening their ranks ahead of the new season, with the likes of Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres arriving at N5.

However, Arsenal’s Premier League title rivals have also made moves in the market, with both Liverpool and Manchester City bolstering their ranks considerably.

Ben Foster has now claimed that Arsenal will be on par with Liverpool if they sign a certain “wonderful” player in the coming weeks.

Ben Foster believes Arsenal will be just as good as Liverpool with Eberechi Eze

The player in question is Eberechi Eze, who Arsenal have been heavily linked with this summer.

Not only are the Gunners keen on the Crystal Palace star, but Eze himself is reportedly interested in joining Arsenal.

However, the Gunners have been hesitating somewhat on the Eze front, which has led to Tottenham sensing an opportunity to swoop for the Eagles ace.

Foster was speaking on the Fozcast podcast along with co-host Tom Ochoa, the two making their Premier League predictions for the season.

Discussing Arsenal’s transfer business so far, Foster told Ochoa: “(They’re eyeing) Eze apparently as well, which will be a massive blow for Palace if they do lose him.

“But if Arsenal do go and get Eze, I think that puts them neck and neck with Liverpool.”

Ochoa replied: “If they do sign Eze, you would struggle to find a weak link in that (team)”.

How much Eberechi Eze could cost Arsenal

Eze is reported to have a £68million release clause in his contract, though there have been conflicting reports over whether it has already expired.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday morning that Eze’s clause has expired already, but Charles Watts believes it will expire on Friday 15 August.

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney has also reported that the clause is indeed active for a few more days.

Eze could bring a lot to Arsenal, with BBC Sport pundit Michael Brown summing up his style of play perfectly in 2024.

“The way he can ease past people when he wants to, check both ways, score goals and moves quickly and easily about the pitch, he is a wonderful and exciting player,” Brown wrote on BBC Sport.

“Everybody will be aware of what he can bring and how good of a footballer he is. He is getting more intelligent and getting better and better.”
