Ben White has admitted that the Arsenal defender ‘was not really sure’ about his goal at Sheffield United this Monday night but he relished the chance to score a rare effort.
The 26-year-old helped the Gunners to grab a 6-0 win at Bramall Lane to continue the north Londoners’ tremendous form. White (58’) scored the only goal of the second half as Arsenal thrashed Sheffield United after a first-half blitz featuring five goals after the first 39 minutes.
Captain Martin Odegaard (5’) started the drubbing as Arsenal strived to go on before Jayden Bogle’s (13’) own goal. Gabriel Martinelli (15’), Kai Havertz (25’) and Declan Rice (39’) would also put the game out of Sheffield United’s reach without the Blades getting out of first gear.

Ben White has helped Arsenal to set the Premier League’s best defence and attack
Arsenal’s sensational start allowed Mikel Arteta’s men to hit cruise control from the break at Bramall Lane. The resounding result further saw the Gunners take their winning streak since the winter break to seven Premier League games with 31 goals scored to only three shipped.
It was even the third successive away match in which Arsenal have scored five or more goals after thrashing West Ham United 6-0 and Burnley 5-0. The Emirates Stadium outfit also have the league’s best goal difference at +45 to rank third in the table, just two points off the top.

White has mainly contributed to Arsenal holding the top-flight’s best defensive record so far this term. The right-back has started 24 of his 26 appearances from 27 games, only sitting out a 3-1 win over Burnley in November owing to a muscular injury which led to his cameos.
Ben White scored only his fourth Gunners goal in 120 matches at Sheffield United
But White also contributed to Arsenal having the Premier League’s best offence in 27 games at Sheffield United. He penned the Gunners’ 68th goal in the top-flight so far this season on Monday. It was also his second of the term after scoring at AFC Bournemouth in September.
This season has now doubled the Poole native’s goal contributions since joining the Gunners from Brighton & Hove Albion. White has four goals in 120 outings across all competitions for Arsenal since July 2021. Yet he did not know all that much about his goal away to the Blades.
“I wasn’t really sure, to be fair,” White has told the Arsenal website. “I shot, obviously, didn’t look where I was shooting and did a little spin. So, I didn’t actually see the ball go in. But, obviously, I heard the crowd and was really excited. I don’t score much, so it’s really nice.”
