Benjamin Sesko was a target for Arsenal before he joined Manchester United.

The Slovenia international was one of the biggest names in the transfer market – not just in the most recent summer window but a year before as well.

Sesko snubbed Arsenal and all other interested parties in 2024 to stay at RB Leipzig, but in August this year, he chose to sign for Manchester United.

The striker has now explained the reason behind his decision.

Why Benjamin Sesko chose Manchester United despite interest from Arsenal and other clubs

Benjamin Sesko was on Arsenal’s radar for well over a year.

The striker was viewed by many in the game as one of the best of his age group, and he has the potential to become a superstar in the coming seasons.

Multiple reports claimed that Arsenal preferred Sesko in the summer, but Andrea Berta decided against a move after holding talks with RB Leipzig.

The Gunners signed Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP instead, and that opened the door for Manchester United to land the Slovenian.

Now, Sesko has revealed that he signed for Ruben Amorim’s side because it was always his dream to play for them at Old Trafford.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s not just mine, but probably for loads of football players, it’s just a dream. Something that you want to achieve in your career, especially to play for a club like that.

“When I heard that I can move here and there are big possibilities that I can change clubs, especially to United, I was burning. It’s something that I always wanted to have. It happened and I’m really happy.”

When Adam Smith mentioned the interest from other clubs and asked if no other team was on his mind when he heard about United’s interest, Sesko said: “Yeah.

“For me, this was a dream to play for a club like this and a stadium like this. It’s something that I always wanted.”

Gyokeres and Sesko were the two big strikers on the transfer market this summer, and Arsenal and Manchester United had both players on their shortlists.

Many felt that Sesko was perfect for the Gunners and Gyokeres for the Red Devils, but they ended up at opposite clubs.

But which of those strikers have had the better season so far?

Gyokeres has clearly had a better start to life in England.

The Swede has had to play every game because of Kai Havertz’s injury and has barely had a rest since he moved to the Premier League.

Despite that, he has been outperforming Sesko, so Arsenal should be very happy with their decision to sign him over the 22-year-old in the summer.
