Arsenal take on Brentford in the Premier League to kick off 2025.
The Gunners picked up the most points, scored the most goals and conceded the least in the entire English top flight in 2024.
Mikel Arteta will be hoping to go a step further this year and win a big trophy. This Arsenal side is definitely capable of achieving that.
Bees boss Thomas Frank is a fan of the Gunners and has heaped praise on one man.
Thomas Frank hails Nicolas Jover and Arsenal’s set-pieces
Arsenal are among the best teams in the world in all departments.
The Gunners have top-class players in every position, their defence is ridiculously strong and they are capable of scoring multiple goals against most teams without breaking a sweat.
However, the one trait Arsenal possess that scares the opposition is their ability in set-pieces.
| Team | Goals score from corners since 2023/24 |
| Arsenal | 24 |
| Bayer Leverkusen | 19 |
| Borussia Monchengladbach | 19 |
| Olympique Lyon | 16 |
| Manchester City | 16 |
| AC Milan | 16 |
| West Ham United | 16 |
Frank knows about Arsenal’s quality in dead-ball situations very well. The Gunners’ set-piece coach, Nicolas Jover, spent a long time at Brentford in the past.
Ahead of the game on New Year’s Day, Frank heaped praise on the work Jover does and also branded Arsenal as ‘the best set-piece team’ in the whole world.
He said, as per Chris Wheatley: “Nicolas is a very good coach. He was here for eight years and started to implement his blueprint. And it’s a very good blueprint. If you look at the details of every single set piece, it’s incredible.
“I think [Arsenal] are the best set-piece team, not only in the Premier League but in the world right now.”
Arsenal have one huge problem during corners now
Arsenal’s corners have been deadly on plenty of occasions since the start of last season.
The delivery is always on point, the chaos created by the players inside the box confuses the opposition and the heading ability of giants like Gabriel Magalhaes makes them so dangerous.
Arsenal will continue to thrive in set-piece situations in 2025, but for the foreseeable future, they have a problem – no Bukayo Saka.
Saka is injured and will be out for over two months. He will be a massive miss for a number of reasons, including his corners from the right side.
Martin Odegaard will likely be the one to take over that responsibility until Saka is back. It remains to be seen if he can be as consistent as Saka was with his corner deliveries.
