FIFA announced the winners of The Best Football Awards for 2024, and one Arsenal player has been recognised for his performances.

The Gunners have had a very good year. Yes, their recent form hasn’t been great, but when you look at this year as a whole, very few teams have been better than them.

Mikel Arteta has built a solid squad at Arsenal that is capable of fighting for every trophy available. We expect them to be in the mix yet again this season despite their slow start.

Bukayo Saka is Arsenal’s best player in many people’s eyes. But, the Englishman has been snubbed in FIFA’s team of the year.

Bukayo Saka snubbed but Arsenal’s William Saliba named in FIFA’s Best XI of 2024

Arsenal signed William Saliba from St Etienne in the summer of 2019.

The Frenchman went on three different loan spells in his first three years as a Gunner. He struggled to convince Arteta and break into the first team at the time.

However, since returning from his loan at Marseille, Saliba has been incredible for Arsenal. He is one of the first names on the team sheet every week and is among the best defenders on the planet.

Saliba has been brilliant all year, and even though he hasn’t been able to get his hands on a trophy yet, his performances have been recognised.

On Tuesday, The Best FIFA Men’s XI for 2024 was announced. Arsenal fans were sad not to see Saka in the team, but Saliba made the cut at the back – ahead of Virgil van Dijk.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was also named in the team along with Manchester City trio Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland.

The Best FIFA Men’s XI 2024: Emiliano Martinez, William Saliba, Ruben Dias, Antonio Rudiger, Dani Carvajal, Rodri, Toni Kroos, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, Erling Haaland, Lamine Yamal.

Arsenal could soon have a big William Saliba problem

Saliba is the best defender in the Premier League and perhaps even in Europe.

The Frenchman has barely put a foot wrong all year, and the fact that he is still only 23 means he is going to be even better in the coming years.

That is why clubs like Real Madrid are interested in signing Saliba, and Arsenal could soon have a problem – the defender will enter the final two years of his contract this summer.

Not many players turn down an opportunity to sign for Real Madrid, and we won’t be surprised at all if Saliba considers a move to the Spanish capital one day.

Arsenal have to start talks with Saliba’s agents over a new deal. Allowing him to enter the final two years of his contract would be a very risky move.
