Arsenal boosted their title hopes with a crucial 1-0 victory over Wolves to stay within six points of leaders Liverpool.

Riccardo Calafiori starred in the Arsenal player ratings after the defender came on to snatch the winner with a sumptuous half volley past goalkeeper Jose Sa.

The game’s major incident involved referee Michael Oliver once again. Fans were incensed with Oliver’s decision to send off Myles Lewis-Skelly after the youngster broke up a Wolves counter attack just before half time.

Jamie O’Hara claimed the decision was ‘one of the worst he’s seen’ and Arsenal now have the problem of potentially losing Lewis-Skelly for some vital fixtures – including Manchester City.

How Arsenal can appeal Myles Lewis-Skelly red card decision

Arsenal have to follow a process in order to appeal Lewis-Skelly’s red card. Firstly, they have two business days to lodge their appeal and have to do so by 17:00 that day.

The club will appeal on the grounds of ‘wrongful dismissal and then the on-field decision will be reviewed by the FA via an independent regulatory commission.

The commission is made up of three people and will look at the referee report and video footage to decide whether there are grounds for the appeal.

It is then decided as to whether the decision is upheld or overturned. However, Arsenal will need to be aware of the fact that Lewis-Skelly’s current three game ban could be extended if the commission deem the appeal to be ‘frivolous.’

Mikel Arteta delighted how Arsenal dealt with the red card to win the game

Speaking at his post-match press conference of Wolves v Arsenal, Mikel Arteta was delighted with how his team responded to the disappointment of the red card.

Arteta stated: “We put so much work, hours, passion and dedication into what we do regardless of what happens It’s my job, our job, to deal with certain things.”

Arteta hopes Arsenal won’t have to appeal Lewis-Skelly’s red card but knows that in Calafiori, he has a very able deputy to the young left back.

The Italian came on in difficult circumstances and following an injury, really showed his class in a sensational second half performance that dragged his side to victory.
