Arsenal are set to face Liverpool in a crucial game on Saturday, as both sides go head to head for a spot at the top of the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta’s side are just one point ahead of Liverpool going into the game at Anfield, where Arsenal have not won since 2012.
This game will be a test of both team’s title credentials, but Arsenal will head into the match knowing that this fixture last season saw them give up a 2-0 lead which led to their eventual collapse in the title race.
Pundits Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Arsenal legend Ian Wright have now all given their predictions for the game.
Neville, Carragher and Wright disagree on Arsenal vs Liverpool
Speaking on The Stick to Football Podcast, the three pundits disagreed on whether Arsenal have the ability and the mentality to go to Anfield and come away with a win.
“I think we will beat them,” Wright stated.
“This is where Arsenal lost the league last year! This is where it all started, that 2-0 lead!” Carragher responded.
“As Man United fans you lot should not be making any jokes about football right now.
“I’m going to go Arsenal. I believe what you said there about last season and the wheels starting to shake that has got to count for something for this team. I’m going to go 2-1 for us” Wright responded to Neville and Carragher.
Carragher then gave his verdict, claiming that he doesn’t “think Liverpool will lose at Anfield. I think it will be 1-1.”
Gary Neville then chimed in, claiming Arsenal would win.
“I don’t think Liverpool will win. I think Arsenal will win. But Liverpool are just mad. I’m going 2-0 Arsenal,” he stated.
Arsenal’s record away at Liverpool
Arsenal have not won in the Premier League at Anfield since September 2012, where goals from Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla secured all three points.
The Gunners have drawn at Anfield three times since, and lost the other seven games there since the win. Arsenal have only won at Liverpool six times in Premier League history, and it is one of the toughest games on the calendar for any team.
Last season saw Arsenal go 2-0 up in the first half through Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, but saw their lead slip and came away with a point.
Arsenal had lost six times in a row in league games in Anfield prior to last season, which included heavy 4-0 and 5-1 defeats against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
With William Saliba and Declan Rice helping form the best defensive unit in the Premier League, this is a different Arsenal side going to face Liverpool, but it will nevertheless be a tough game and one in which many Arsenal fans may settle for a draw.
