Pundit Chris Sutton was left stunned by what one Arsenal fan said about Mikel Arteta after matchday three.
Some fans were not happy as Arsenal lost 1-0 to Liverpool at Anfield.
The two teams were impossible to split, with the match being won by a freak moment produced by Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored a free kick 32 yards from David Raya’s goal.
Jamie Carragher questioned Arteta’s intent after the fixture, wondering why Arsenal failed to bring a creative spark to the game, which was an opinion shared by many supporters.

Chris Sutton responds to Mikel Arteta sacking claim
After the game, Robbie Savage and Chris Sutton assumed their positions for BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 Football Phone In.
The segment allowed the two pundits to debate Arsenal’s defeat with fans, and one supporter shared their thought that Arteta should be sacked.
Sutton could not quite believe what he was hearing from the angry fan, taking it upon himself to respond by dubbing the opinion ‘way overboard’.
“You beat Leeds 5-0, and then you’re playing against the champions on their own patch today,” Sutton said.
“I think it was a bit of a negative approach from Arsenal today, but to say Mikel Arteta should be sacked, I mean, come on. Come on. That’s way overboard, isn’t it?”
As emotions ran high after the defeat, Sutton took the time to put the result into context, with the slim defeat coming just a week after a 5-0 win.
Arteta has his critics, with the main argument being that the Arsenal manager has had a lot of time to perfect his squad, but that’s not quite the case.

Arteta’s length of project judgment makes no sense
Mohamed Salah thinks Arsenal should win the league, having been ‘together for five years’, but that time period only covers Arteta’s arrival in N5 to now.
Six of Arteta’s favoured XI this season have arrived within the last two years, debunking the claims that the Spaniard has had a lot of time to get his squad to gel.
| Season | Position | Points |
| 2019/20 | 8th | 56 |
| 2020/21 | 8th | 61 |
| 2021/22 | 5th | 69 |
| 2022/23 | 2nd | 84 |
| 2023/24 | 2nd | 89 |
| 2024/25 | 2nd | 74 |
Arsenal only announced themselves as title contenders in the 2022/23 campaign, which was the first that Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba played together.
Since then, the boss has been adding to his squad where possible to strengthen Arsenal’s claim to the title, so, with regard to the time he’s had at the Emirates, the narrative about silverware being overdue isn’t as severe as it’s made out to be.
Sure, pressure is on as trophies do need to be delivered, but given that Arsenal finished eighth in the Spaniard’s first season, the North Londoners will be nowhere near the thought of sacking their manager.
