Underrated Premier League players is a topic that’s been well debated over the years and Chris Sutton believes it’s a player who Arsenal cashed in on in 2019 who now tops that list.

We’ve seen countless players through the Premier League years who are attributed with being underrated and often, undervalued by fans.

The great Manchester United title winning teams had players like Michael Carrick, Park Ji Sung and more in their squads, while for our very own Arsenal teams, we’ve seen the likes of Lauren, Edu, and Ray Parlour all make huge contributions but not take the limelight like others.

Who do you think is the most underrated player at Arsenal right now?

Of course, right now, Arsenal’s squad is full of quality and it’s hard to suggest any of the current side are ‘underrated’ at all.

However, according to former PL striker Chris Sutton, it is a player Arsenal did once have who is the most underrated in the league right now.

There have been some outstanding performances in the Premier League this season from players who perhaps don’t always make the headlines.

Arsenal do have a few of those players, with the likes of Mikel Merino and Jurrien Timber among the Gunners stars who just get on with their jobs.

However, according to Chris Sutton, it is a former Gunner who is currently the Premier League’s most underrated star.

“Alex Iwobi at Fulham,” Sutton admitted.

“I think he can play many positions and play them well, and I don’t think he actually gets enough credit.”

Alex Iwobi is among a number of former Gunners shining elsewhere

Arsenal landed over £30m for Alex Iwobi when they sold him to Everton in 2019 and at the time, it was outstanding business.

He has gone on to carve out a fine Premier League career and as Sutton says here, he has gone about his business this season very well indeed.

However, he was never going to be a player who drove Arsenal to a Premier League title and while he has quality, there is a reason the Gunners moved him on when they did.

Iwobi has done well and as with the likes of Folarin Balogun, Joe Willock and Emiliano Martinez, he has proved to be successful.

Still, Arsenal have not ‘missed’ any of those names really and the current squad doesn’t really have a spot where those players automatically fit in.
