Arsenal travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool this Sunday, with both teams set to select their new marquee strikers to lead the line in the Premier League showdown.
The Gunners have been crying out for a natural striker and goalscorer in recent seasons, and finally landed their man this summer.
Viktor Gyokeres arrived from Sporting CP for £63 million, having scored 97 goals in 102 games for the Portuguese giants over the last two seasons.
Meanwhile, Liverpool moved for Hugo Ekitike, acquiring the Frenchman from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79 million.

Clinton Morrison says Hugo Ekitike is better than Viktor Gyokeres
Ekitike has got off to an excellent start on Merseyside, scoring three goals in his first three games for his new club.
Meanwhile, Gyokeres endured a difficult debut for Arsenal against Manchester United at Old Trafford, managing no shots or key passes against the Red Devils.
However, the Swede responded to criticism about his display in the north-west with a brace against Leeds United last week.
The Arsenal number 14 should have built some confidence heading to Anfield, where he’ll be raring to go and eager to show what he can do in a big game.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s huge clash, former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison claimed Ekitike is better than Gyokeres and it’s not even a debate.
“Let me stop you there,” he said on Stan Sport.
“Let me stop you there, I like Gyokeres and I think he’s very, very good, but no. It’s not a debate at the moment. No chance. Ekitike scored three goals in three. He’s had an assist.
“Gyokeres scored a penalty and also scored an alright goal against Leeds, but missed a sitter before that.
“Come on. Ekitike scored against Bournemouth. He scored against Newcastle, and he got two assists as well. So, it’s not just about goal scoring.”

It’s too early to judge Hugo Ekitike and Viktor Gyokeres
Given Liverpool paid over £15 million more for Ekitike than Arsenal did for Gyokeres, Liverpool would hope that they have the better striker.
That said, it’s impossible to make a definitive decision about which player is better from such a small sample size.
Morrison’s point about their goalscoring record thus far is moot, because both players have netted a goal per game.
| Statistical Comparison 2024/25 (League Only) | ||
| Stat | Gyokeres | Ekitike |
| Appearances | 33 | 33 |
| Goals | 39 | 15 |
| Assists | 7 | 8 |
| Shots per 90 | 4.08 | 4 |
| Expected Goals per 90 | 0.99 | 0.76 |
| Key Passes per 90 | 1.96 | 1.54 |
| Expected Assists per 90 | 0.22 | 0.24 |
Ekitike has certainly shown more outside of the final action, contributing to Liverpool’s build-up and creativity a lot more than Gyokeres has.
That said, the 27-year-old showed in Portugal that he’s an exceptional ball carrier in wide areas, and this could be a facet of his game he starts showing in England’s top flight over the coming weeks.
