David Moyes says Mikel Arteta has made one Arsenal player reach a whole new level

Arsenal ended their terrible away run with a win against Everton.

The Gunners had dropped points in each of their previous three away games in the Premier League, and a fourth would’ve been costly as Manchester City had won their clash against West Ham.

However, Viktor Gyokeres scored a fantastic penalty in the first half, and that was enough for Arsenal to win the game.

Another player who was excellent was Declan Rice, and he caught David Moyes’ eye as well.

Change my mind: Declan Rice should be Arsenal captain from the 2026/27 season.

David Moyes says Mikel Arteta has turned Declan Rice into a ‘top player’

Moyes was Rice’s manager in his final few years at West Ham United.

The Scot knows the Englishman very well and played a big part in his development during his time at the London Stadium.

Arsenal signed Rice from Moyes’ West Ham in 2023 in a club record deal, and he has been phenomenal in the famous red and white.

The Everton boss has credited the midfielder for how well he has progressed, and he also hailed Mikel Arteta for turning him into a top player.

He said after the game on Saturday, as relayed on HaytersTV: “Declan developed himself. It’s not down to me. Declan was always going to be a great player.

“Mikel has made him into a real, real top player.

“But he’s a great boy, more than anything, he’s a terrific boy, and because of that, it’ll give him a great chance and a great player as well. Lots of top attributes.”

Earlier in the same press conference, Moyes also referred to Rice as ‘probably the best midfield player in the world’, which is huge praise.

Declan Rice set an example to Arsenal players vs Everton

Rice was absolutely furious after Arsenal’s win against Wolves in the Premier League in their previous game.

Even though the Gunners picked up all three points in that fixture, their performance was awful, and Rice is said to have had a real go at his teammates in the dressing room.

Having done that, the Arsenal star needed to step up himself in the next game, and he did just that. He was absolutely brilliant against Everton on Saturday.

That should serve as an example to every other player in the squad. Rice doesn’t just have the courage to speak, but he also has what it takes to follow it up with a phenomenal performance.

That is what makes him one of the very best in the business.
