Arsenal have several players competing at Euro 2024, and goalkeeper David Raya made his debut in the competition as Spain won their group.

Raya is Spain’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Athletic Bilbao star Unai Simon, but with Spain winning their opening two fixtures, the Arsenal ace was given a chance against Albania in the final group game.

The 28-year-old performed superbly as he made four crucial saves to win 1-0, and Raya was praised by fans for his display.

Raya was on the bench as Spain beat Italy 1-0 in their second game, in which his Arsenal teammate Jorginho started, and the Spaniard has now revealed what he said to the midfielder, as well as other teammates competing at the tournament.

Speaking after Spain’s victory over Albania, Raya revealed his feelings about Arsenal’s end to the Premier League season, and explained what he has been saying to other Gunners at the Euros.

“It’s a dream to represent your country, especially on one of the biggest stages in the world,” he stated.

“Having the opportunity to come here is a dream come true and to represent your country.

“We know that the season with Arsenal, we didn’t get what we wanted but now I’m focused on the national team and trying to help the team as much as possible.”

“I spoke with a few of them (Arsenal teammates), obviously congratulating people and I saw Jorginho the other day. We have a really good group and we keep in touch.”

Raya performed well on his first tournament appearance for Spain, but he still looks set to drop down to the bench for the knockout stages.

He is not the only one who may be fearing their places. Jorginho’s Italy side underwhelmed in their group games, and the veteran midfielder could lose his starting spot after attracting criticism.

Leandro Trossard was dropped by Belgium after a disastrous performance in their defeat to Slovakia, and Kai Havertz is also facing increased pressure following a quiet display against Switzerland.

Declan Rice also suffered a rare poor display as England drew to Denmark, and he has expressed his frustration that his National side do not press as high as Arsenal do.
