David Seaman expects opportunity for Arsenal ‘keeper Ramsdale soon

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman believes Aaron Ramsdale is set to start for Arsenal again soon.

Aaron Ramsdale appears to have lost his starting berth at Arsenal, as Mikel Arteta has selected David Raya between the sticks for each of the Gunners’ last three matches, including the Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven and the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Arteta has refused to state that Raya is now the outright No. 1, but it certainly seems that way. However, Ramsdale won’t have given up on getting back into the starting XI. The 25-year-old is an excellent goalkeeper and will back himself to win this battle for goalkeeping supremacy in the long run.

He will continue to work diligently in training, and when he does get chances to play this season, Ramsdale he needs to take them. The 4-cap England international needs to impress when he does get further opportunities to play for the Gunners, and ensure that he makes Arteta’s selection decisions as difficult as possible.

Seaman sees chance for Ramsdale

David Seaman believes that such an opportunity to shine is just around the corner for Ramsdale, as Arsenal are set to face Brentford in an EFL Cup third round clash on Wednesday evening.

Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast, the legendary former shot-stopper said, “I’m sure he’ll play midweek against Brentford and then we will see what happens after that…Probably Aaron will play and then after who plays? If Raya comes straight back in to the Premier League then I think it’s almost obvious who his number one is.”

As things stand, Arsenal are in a very strong position with two top class ‘keepers to choose from. However, this situation could easily backfire on Arteta. If he rotates between the two players too regularly, both could become unsettled. Equally, should Ramsdale not get enough game time, he will look to leave the Emirates Stadium before long.

Ramsdale will still have ambitions of usurping Jordan Pickford as the No. 1 for the England national team. In order to stand any chance of achieving that, though, he needs to be playing regular football at club level.
