Declan Rice outlines what Arsenal teammates need to do to beat Man City in Premier League title race

Arsenal were on the verge of Premier League title glory last season, but fell just short of Manchester City on the final day.

Mikel Arteta’s side finished just two points behind Man City as Arsenal amassed 89 points, their highest total since the Invincibles, whilst they also recorded their best attacking and defensive records.

This was still not enough, and Arsenal must be wondering what more they can do to win a first title since 2004.

However, there is always room for improvement, and midfielder Declan Rice has now called for his side to step up their level even further.

The England star joined for a club-record fee last summer and enjoyed an outstanding campaign, as Rice was included in the PFA Team of the Year alongside four other Arsenal players.

Speaking at the PFA awards, Rice was asked what Arsenal need to do to win the league, and he outlined his expectations that his side would continue to improve.

“I think we just need to be a little bit better than we were last season. Look, it was really close last year, obviously, you’re coming up against Man City, Liverpool, and obviously Aston Villa, who were unbelievable last year, but we need to be better this year,” Rice stated.

“We need to push for more, to strive for more, of course we want to stop Man City, and I’m sure everyone wants to as well, but it’s going to be tough.”

Arsenal were unlucky last season. They finished two points behind this excellent Man City side, who have more experience in title races as a team.

The Gunners won 16 of their last 18 games to keep themselves in the race, and this actually came after a somewhat chaotic start to the season.

This shows that Arsenal do not need wholesale changes, but to correct the small errors which held them back and cost them points. They now have a much more settled squad, with better depth in the back line, and will hope to build upon their opening-day victory to start strongly.
